The Folly Coffee Shop is a cosy spot tucked into the heart of Market Place, Hawes, serving up a genuine local cafe experience that’s just as welcoming to four-legged friends as it is to their owners. With an unpretentious atmosphere, it works well for a casual breakfast, a quick lunch, or a mid-afternoon tea break after wandering around the village. The seating is comfortable and the vibe quietly welcoming, making it easy to linger over a pot of tea or a well-pulled coffee.

Visitors can expect straightforward, freshly made meals that lean on local tastes—think hearty sausage sandwiches and simple sandwiches with fresh sides. The menu highlights suggest a sweetness to the place, with offerings like rich hot chocolate crowned with marshmallows and a fruit cake served alongside Wensleydale cheese, anchoring the experience firmly in the Yorkshire Dales setting. There's attention to details that dog owners appreciate, such as complimentary biscuits and dog treats, reflecting the community spirit of the area.

The Folly also stands out for its friendly, unhurried service. Staff take time to connect without crowding you, and the environment tends to attract a mix of locals and visitors easing into their day or pausing between walks. Early afternoons or late mornings when the village quiets down seem to be the best times to soak in the calm and watch everyday life unfold in Market Place.

Those who enjoy low-key, dog-friendly cafes with a focus on fresh, simple food and a relaxing place to recharge between exploring Hawes will find The Folly a comfortable fit. It’s the sort of spot that feels like part of the village rather than just a pit stop, offering a moment of warmth and familiarity amid the Wensleydale charm.

Great little cafe, really welcoming to both myself and the dogs. Dogs got given some treats which kept them quiet while I ate a lovely bacon sandwich. Would definitely recommend if you're in Hawes.

We had a quick bite here today, cheese and marmite toastie and a ham and mustard sandwich, both were fabulous and freshly made accompanied by salad and crisps. We had a pot of tea and a coffee, which was also great. Service was friendly and our dog was made welcome. I would highly recommend this small independent coffee shop.

Staying at the CAMC caravan club- a bit of grocery shopping in the village-stopped at The Folly for coffee and cake as they are dog friendly (quite a few don’t allow dogs) lovely coffee and cake - large cup of latte (1 shot) and hubby had 2 cups of flat white (2 shot) as it was so good. He had the fruitcake with cheese and I had a piece of chocolate cake- both lovely. Doggy treats for our pooch was a nice touch. Very small- only 3 tables as you go in- not sure if any more through the back or upstairs. A bench outside for a nice warm today - which today was not! Very friendly service and seems popular with locals. Cash only.

We have been here twice and will go back again. This small but busy little cafe nestled with others in Market Place with seating inside or outside offers good tea and coffee reasonably priced. It comes into its own with the fruit or cheese scones. The fruit scones we had yesterday were divine served with butter, jam and fresh strawberry slices on top with an option of cream if preferred. The scones were light with a soft crunch outside and a wholesome flavour. The cheese scones we had today were served with butter, Wensleydale Cheese slices and pickle and were equally delicious. The Folly caters for all and welcomes dogs. We will be back
